Founding members and new members at an historic club gathering. Forfar Sailing Club 50th Anniversary Prize Giving was held at The Strathmore Arms Hotel on 21st November 2009.
As it was an historic event for the club many past members were in attendance, including David Arnot, Alistair Cramond and Gilbert Robertson who were among the founders in 1959. Some of the guests agreed to do a spot of reminiscing about their time at the club and David talked about the initial years. He was followed by Stewart Robertson who waxed lyrical about he and his brother John growing up around the club and their later world stage Enterprise winning days. James Cook, now a national television reporter recalled a carefree and mischievous childhood when he lived and sailed locally. The tales were appreciated by all, especially anyone who had been part of that history.
Proceedings were officiated by current and recent committee members. Among the racing trophies was the Arnot Goblet which was presented by David Arnot himself. Individual, non race related trophies were the St Margarets Trophy for most improved sailor which went to Craig Knox, and notably the Robertson Trophy, donated to the club by Gilbert Robertson for merit and contribution was presented in person by him to Graham Topping.
The evening was a great success and a fitting end to the club half century celebrations.
