What Do We Sail?

Because of the size and nature of Forfar Loch, it is suitable only for small, light and manoeuvrable boats but not for larger vessels such as yachts as these need much deeper water and space.

Forfar Loch is a Nature Reserve and powered craft (other than specific safety boats) are not permitted. For this reason, Forfar Sailing Club is a dinghy only club. However, non-members and members of the public regularly use canoes, kayaks or sailboards on the water and the local angling club has its own rowing boat. There is no restriction on dinghy type and although single handed Toppers, Lasers and Solos are the most common and double handed Enterprises and Wayfarers are regularly sailed, everything from a 21ft Laser 2000 to a 7ft Optimist can be seen.
