The popular Tuesday series continued on 20th May in familiar circumstances with a light easterly wind.
The race started in familiar fashion when Alison Geddes' Solo and Tony Walker's Enterprise took advantage of their respective boat's better speed in those conditions to head the fleet by a fair margin onto the second leg of a long run down the loch. Behind them were 5 lasers and Graham Topping in the slowest boat, the very dangerously competitive Heron.
Tony and Alison became victims of their circumstances when they opened an even greater lead on the run, only to discover they had both misread the course and had to turn round on seeing the squabbling Lasers, led by Tony Cook, tripping over each other but still managing to head in the right direction.
Despite her mistake Alison overtook several boats to take first place on handicap, while Tony missed the podium and slipped into fourth behind Graham Topping (Heron) and Tony Cook (Laser) respectively.
Thursday was a fox and hound evening as Graham Topping set off in his Heron (the fox) ahead of the great sight of a pack of 8 Lasers (the hounds) who set their sights on him in a pursuit race.
The wind was again a shifty easterly and the hounds jostled in a close pack during the initial stages. Eventually Tony Cook and Malcolm Heron stretched ahead while the remainder fought like a pack of dogs for position in a constant battle.
The fox proved too quick and the Heron was never sniffed giving Graham a win by a large margin, master of foxhounds Tony Cook was second ahead of Malcolm Heron in third, however Peter Tait, back after a long spell was fourth, showing he still has the hunting instinct holding off shorter toothed competitors. |
